Tell-Tale Heart beats at Caravan
Those who visit Caravan farm Theatre will hear a deep, pulsating echoing from the valley wall, through the dark wood, and into their minds… just like in that poem by Edgar Allen Poe.
(Vernon Morning Star)
This year was a leap towards a fuller professional shadow play, drawing on the grotesque talents of four of our favorite artists: Catherine Hahn, Cameron Shook, Stephan Bircher, and the freakishly inventive Andy Graffitti. The Walk of Terror lured in the energy of a huge community of spooky actor volunteers and technicians, many new to the farm. The Dead Beatles, The Midnight Riders, Lizzie Borden, Jack the Ripper and Dead Choir Girl were among the gruesome and haunting vignettes scattered throughout a creepy Victorian forest.
The Edgar Allen Poe shadow play was magnificently conceived- stretched broadly across the Gazebo canvas for all eyes to feast. Some remarkably effective slight of hand techniques made this telling of Heart utterly unique, and once again showed Caravan’s brilliance at adapting a classic tale into a major theatrical event.
The Walk of Terror was put my charge to curate. Estelle had a very strong vision for it this year. Gone were the “tourguides” of years previous, and each tableaux was carefully crafted to evoke beauty, irony, and peek inside the dark side of the Victorian psyche, effectively tying the whole evening together.
Next year Caravan will be expanding the event to a six night production. Call us if you want to participate in the Walk of Terror, and get ready for another round of nocturnal nightmarish adventure.
