Since 1978, artists and audiences of all ages have been converging on this piece of land, to experience epic, populist, outdoor theatre in all seasons, in all kinds of weather. Now, adults who attended shows as children are returning with children of their own, often to see, onstage, the same performers they remember from their youth. And artists who have shaped the course of the company from its inception are welcoming a younger generation of designers, actors, playwrights and technicians to take up the reins, and in doing so, the story of this company rolls on. To celebrate these thirty years - the maturation of a company and the thrill of succeeding generations – we will be staging two of the greatest, gut wrenching family dramas of all time: Shakespeare’s King Lear and Brecht’s Mother Courage and Her Children. Each is a masterpiece, and each is a workout, for both artist and audience. To kick off the season we will begin with something decidedly lighter – in a darkish sort of way: The Widow Black’s Cafe, a “Farm Noir” by Andy Graffiti - our fourth annual fall show. All three shows this season will feature the hallmarks of a Caravan production: stunning design, hot-damn music, and engaging and provocative performances - and maybe a horse or two. Estelle Shook
