In celebration of the last thirty years, we bring you EVERY CITIZEN’S RIGHT TO CULTURE: Building a Cultural Community.

This is a new, three component project in partnership with the communities of Armstrong and Spallumcheen to educate, inspire, and develop access to the arts in our community. Funding for this project is provided in part by 2010 Legacies Now.

A twelve member Citizen’s Cultural Delegation will participate in the production process of Caravan Farm Theatre’s summer 2008 production of Bertolt Brecht’s Mother Courage and Her Children, attending the text and production workshops, first day of rehearsal, tech dress, dress and opening.

Free five-minute theatre performances will occur throughout the City of Armstrong and the Township of Spallumcheen. Two professional actors will perform a selection of classical and contemporary scenes in the local business establishments and community spaces over the space of a week in early May 08.

Caravan Farm Theatre will organize and facilitate four separate groups comprised of ten senior citizens and ten youths from the community to attend a performance of our 2008 summer production of Mother Courage and Her Children. In addition, throughout the months of May and June, info sessions and public service announcements will publicize the accessibility measures in place, such as Pay What You Can Tuesdays, Preview Performance rates, and Family Sundays.

By inviting members of the community into the organization’s creative process, by bringing the theatre to the public and commercial spaces, and by ensuring that those with limited resources and mobility are able to participate, we intend to strengthen the relationship between artist and audience, and between this cultural institution and the community it serves. Though pilot project in nature, we hope to incorporate aspects of this program into our annual activities.
