Horses and wagons will carry you to the show site, where one of the great masterpieces of 20th century theatre will unfold under the starry Okanagan sky.

Meet the wily and shrewd Mother Courage and her three grown children: the Brave Eillif, the Honest Swiss Cheese and the Kindly Kattrin. Together they tour the embattled countries of Europe during the Thirty Years War, traveling in the wake of the Swedish, then the Polish armies, hawking booze and boots, soup and shirts to the soldiers, and attempting to make profit from the war. However, “big profits are not made by little people”, and the price the war will exact for Courage’s livelihood is her children, each of which she will lose while doing business.

Fiercely funny, powerful and profound, Mother Courage and Her Children is a modern morality play, in which the human virtues of wisdom, bravery and honesty and kindness, as personified by Courage and her children, fall under the wheels of war, otherwise known as a “continuation of business by other means”.

This summer, come on down to the farm, where a collection of the country’s finest actors, a Caravan All Star Band, and the great Caravan horses will bring you the timeless story of Bertolt Brecht’s famous entrepreneur.
